the seven wonders of the WWW

1. Google.com
fast and efficient all around search engine. but that's just google itself, there's also google images, google maps, and google earth even where you can pinpoint any location on earth and see it's surroundings in 3-D! It really doesn't get much cooler than that. One not so great thing about google though is the google books component. It markets itself as a search engine for online e-books, but 99percent of the time you're going to come up with an e book that is non readable and will feature only a chapter or two at best. Perhaps in the future this will change, and will make Google truly the supreme sight of the WWW.

2. ihatemusic.noquam.com
an elite online forum where the world's most dedicated music fans gather and discuss music. you're not going to find a site where discussions of the most obscure, rarest, yet coolest and music releases and also films and books get discussed in a serious manner with a collector's mindset. it is also a great site for news information about underground music events as well as film and print related events. membership is free, registration is open to the public.

3. gmail.com
part of the google components, but this one is so great that it deserves a ranking in itself. gmail is the best email client out there. the design of it is far superior than yahoo and other email clients. to say that gmail is convenient to use is an understatement. these guys and gals thought of everything that could make emailing fast, efficient, fun, exciting, and easy. truly the best, though invites only, you have to know someone who already uses gmail in order to get invited.

4. pitchforkmedia.com
another music related site. though controvercial since it started to get important, it truly is an all around buzz site for the latest in underground/indie music. though sometimes the ratings are extremely harsh, and there seems to be editorial staff who would die for anything but a cruel bashing of its reviews, the site maintains extreme stability, and is one the most popular underground music review sites there is. it also updates itself every single weekday and has been doing so for the past couple of years without fail. that to me is astounding.

5. ecstaticpeace.com
if you're in the area for long, this is the website to check out for the real local music scene. founded by sonic youth member thurston moore, this website is his record label which he signs various artists and also puts out his own releases through the label. though it doesn't get updated very often the content itself is of impeccable taste, and will usually feature a show listing a day prior to the event. unlike anything else, truly.

6. amazon.com
wow. you can buy anything on this website. from money printing machines to japanese noodles! delivery is fast depending on location and the item, and returns are easy to make if you decide to return something. though the site was originally known for it's books, it has expanded to infinite categories and will have the newest technology out there. when the nintnendo Wii was hard to find, amazon.com had it. go to this site if you're ever wondering where to get that brand new iPhone or digital camera.

7. make your own website!

who knows your website could be one of those sites that really capture the moment in terms of convenience, marketability, and user friendly graphics that would make the site, "one of the 7 wonders of the WWW". Trust yourself, know what you are doing, make sure you read plenty of web code and ideas on how to generate a great site, and think of something that you would like to see on the web but isn't out there yet. this is a great project for inventors who can sit there and think of something that would be useful to the current market of products or websites. and with the convenience of today's web making programs, it's easy for anyone to make a website, the fun way!
